Soup Numero Dos

This weekend I made my second soup of the season. However, this was not a new recipe. It's a cheddar chowder that my mom makes. It's so delicious, easy to make, and it only makes 6 servings which is a nice amount for me since I don't cook for a lot of people.
CHEDDAR CHOWDER:
2 cups water
2 cups diced potatoes (peeled)
1/2 cup diced carrots
1/2 cup diced celery
1/4 cup chopped onion
1 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp pepper

WHITE SAUCE
1/4 c. butter
1/4 c. flour
2 cups milk
2 cups grated cheddar cheese
1 c. cubed ham

Combine water, potatoes, carrots, celery, onion, salt and pepper in large kettle (I don't think I'll use as big of a kettle next time). Boil 10-12 minutes. Meanwhile in small saucepan make white sauce by melting butter. Add flour and stir until smooth (about 1 minute). Slowly add milk; cook until thickened. Add grated cheese to white sauce; stir until melted. Add white sauce and cubed ham to vegetables that have not been drained. Heat through. 6 servings.

Not really the best photo, but I promise it was yummy :)
