Starting to blur

My co teachers told me that after your first year of teaching, the students and years begin to blur and you won't remember anything. I thought "haha" yeah. right.
Well they were.
I'm only halfway into the school year and at times I cant remember if something happened this year...or last school year. I can't imagine what my memory will be ina few years. However, it does make sense; especially for teachers because we teach generally the same thing often multiple times a day, every year.

Anyway, just wanted to drop a comforting classroom story.

My sophomores are broken up into two class sessions. My first hour is a class from heaven and my 7th hour of sophomores is a class from...somewhere else. Don't get me wrong, I love all of them individually, but when they come together they are something.

So this morning during 1st hour, we started a new debate project where each student is to pick a controversial topic and present points for both sides. One of them, whom I'll call Greg was in the back of the room with a couple of other guys...whose conversation started on football, but quickly changed to the topic list they were looking at. I was eavesdropping and could tell they were really thinking about the issues at hand. Then Greg said "Hey guys can I ask you something real quick? Just raise your hand....if you did not HAVE to be here, come to school, would you come anyway?" At first one or two said "HA! NO!" but then as they discussed it, every single one of them said they would still come. They brought up points such as "video games would get old after a while....I'd miss my friends....it's the only way to get anywhere in life....I'd be too lazy to get an education on my own...sports!" I was silent the whole time, but very comforted by the fact that they truly have good heads on their shoulders.

I haven't asked my 7th hour this question...but I'm very curious to hear their answers.
