Some people may not like snow, but I'd wager to say most people enjoy a good snow day (or two). There's something about being forced to slow down and relax that everyone wants and needs, but aren't willing to take it upon themselves to make time for themselves. As this nearly nation-wide storm Q affects thousands of people, I'm taking notice of the human bond that is exposed during snow days. Nearly everyone loves to do the same things; catch up on some house work, cook and bake warm comfort foods, play board games, read, and if you're lucky enough to have power, sit on your couch and watch movies or ridiculous TV shows...because you can. I think snow days are created from a higher source to force us to enjoy the simple things, and to enjoy life. Sure, we're all bound to get cabin fever after a day or two...but with that comes a new energy to take on work or whatever it was that was keeping you from relaxing before.
I know I enjoy the cozy feeling of "not" being able to leave for a day or so. I like to take this time to talk to friends and family, and just have fun. They make me feel like a kid. Today is the end of snow day #1 for me and I slept in, worked out, cooked, graded some papers, watched TV, played games, etc. Tomorrow, I think I'll be ready to venture out and start scooping snow, and I won't dread it because IT is the very reason why I, we, have been able to take a step back, breath, and enjoy. I'm curious to see the positive boost in the attitudes of people on a "Monday" after these snow days, as I expect most will be rested, satisfied, and ready to tackle the duties of life.
I hope you are warm, safe, and enjoying life wherever you are.
