On Wednesday I had the new teacher workshop in North Platte. It's nice to get away from school for a little bit, but I hate preparing plans for a substitute. I sat with some fun people this time, so that helped. There will be a workshop once a month and I'm not sure if I will attend the others or not. After the workshop I went back to Hershey to look what the sub had left me so I could start getting an idea for the rest of the week. Then I went back to North Platte to the Rec center for a Zumba (exercise to music) kickoff party. I had done jazzercise once before at the harvest of harmony pageant, which is basically the same thing. It was fun and I hope to continue going. The only bad part is that it takes up a lot of time during the weekdays by the time I drive to and from North Platte.
On Thursday after school I went to the reserve volleyball. Hershey was playing Lexington! It was a weird feeling as I now know more Hershey students than I do Lexington students. I clapped for both, but cheered for Hershey. I talked to a few Lexington parents and it was a good time overall...Hershey won!
On Friday when I walked into my class that was to be observed there were only about four students in there...due to school pictures. So Mr. Troxel said he'd wait to observe me on Monday. Though it was frustrating at the time, I'm glad I'll be observed when I'm (hopefully) a little more well-rested. That night I went home and stayed home. Ah...felt good. I spent the night cleaning and watching some shows online (sigh...still no tv).
I slept in Saturday morning...MAN did I sleep in! I know I needed it though especially since I felt a slight cold coming on. In the afternoon I headed to North Platte to get some groceries and decorations for homecoming. I am the freshmen class sponsor and this week is homecoming. Each class is responsible for decorating their respective hallways for the week. This years theme is movies and we were assigned to decorate for "Shrek." The other classes received "Friday Night Lights" "Jurassic Park" "Up" and "Pirates of the Caribbean." In my opinion, I think we got the best movie. The freshmen had lots of ideas to make one end of the hallway the swamp and the other side the castle. I was "assigned" this position and wasn't told much about it so I hope the decorating goes well and that the students who show up are there to work and not mess around.
It's now Saturday evening and I am grading papers while listening to the Husker game on the radio. I will wait to post this blog until after tomorrow so I can provide an update after the decorating tomorrow. If it looks good I'll take a few pictures :)
Wow, what an afternoon. It was a hectic day, but all the decorating is done. I will just post pictures of the Shrek hallway, but if you are on facebook I will post pictures of the other hallways on there later this week.
