Well, this past week went by a lot slower than I had expected. It wasn't a bad week, but I think I was just looking forward to the weekend. My writing class worked on some fictional descriptive writing, 7th graders worked on grammar, 9th graders continued in their short story unit and the 10th graders presented their time traveling projects in connection to the short story, "A Sound of Thunder" by Ray Bradbury. So far the hardest part is dealing with students who have been gone, are gone, or will be gone. Why can't they all just stay in school? haha.
Luckily, on Fridays we get out early, at 2:43. So, as soon as the bell rang I packed up my stuff and headed East. I met my Lex friends, Danielle and Meghan and Wesleyan friends Mishayla (Broken Bow) and Kaitlyn (Gothenburg) for tacos at Rosario's. Kaitlyn is now teaching in Lex and we had to introduce her to Lexington's "tacos." She loved them, of course. Then we all went to the Lexington Homecoming game, where Kristin (sister) also joined us. We had a great time! Lexington won, and a girl we went to country school with was crowned homecoming queen. After the game we grabbed some Dairy Queen and toured Kaitlyn's apartment. It was weird having her show me something in Lex I haven't seen. Her apartment was very spacious with a lot of storage. Then we trekked out to my house in the fog (Danielle and Meghan went home by this point) to go hot tubbing. Needless to say, it was a good Friday night. The rest of the weekend consisted of sleeping, Husker football, visiting family, and the antique extravaganza. The icing on the cake for this weekend was that my new baby cousin was born :). I realized that I have never gone to a hospital to see a baby before so it was fun to hold a newborn.
Here are a few pictures of my classroom for those of you who have been asking :)
I'm looking forward to this week since it will be a short week. No class today and Wednesday I have a new teacher workshop. I sure wish teachers could just pack up and leave wehn we have to be gone, instead of making detailed plans for the subs. Oh well. It's now 9:30am on Monday and I am loving this cool weather and the "quietness" that comes along with it. Fall is my favorite season and it's perfectly fine with me if it starts a little early.
