Civilization!

I'm going to try to make this blog short and sweet as it was a long drawn out week. I have now joined civilization as I finally have cable and was able to watch the Husker game last night---what a game! So far the TV has been great, with the exception of a few channels that temporarily go out due to a week signal---usually they are my HD channels. I realized this past week that the first quarter ends this coming Friday-October 14th. Wow, that came fast. I plan to go home next weekend for an eye appointment and it will most likely be a quick trip since I'll be needing to prepare for parent-teacher conferences.

The weather has definitely been changing from intense wind, to high temperatures, to thunderstorms. On Thursday Kasy and I traveled to Sutherland for the volleyball game. We won, but the wind was so intense you could hear it in the gym. We didn't get back until about 9:00. Kasy, Ella, and I signed up to provide breakfast Friday morning for the teachers. All teachers sign up to provide breakfast on a Friday---usually every other Friday. So after the volleyball game I made two coffee cakes and some sausage pinwheels. After that I had to finish up some quizzes and things for the next day so needless to say it was a late, late night. However, breakfast went well--Ella and Kasy provided fruit, juice and egg casseroles. Friday after school I was exhausted and came home to enjoy my tv and and my bed :). Making breakfast Thursday night must have motivated me because I've been cooking a lot this weekend and have some meatballs in the crockpot as I type.

The completed coffee cakes and sausage pinwheels approaching midnight...

Since we're facing the last week of the quarter I'm anticipating a fast week since there are lots of little things to 'finish up.' But, I won't hold my breath. I spent a lot of time cleaning this weekend so if anyone is planning to visit, you should do so sooner rather than later;)

P.S. I thought of these later. Last week was interesting as our two technology coordinators were out of state for a convention all week. I was hoping I would have no computer problems since no one could fix them. I didn't have computer problems, but I had projector problems which was even worse as I use it every day. I survived the whole week without it and they replaced mine today (10/11/11). I had a somewhat crazy day last week when 1. the projector was broken, 2. the bell schedule got off, 3. A NINTH Grader, thought it would be a good idea to sharpen a purple crayon in my crank pencil sharpener. Also that day one of the science teachers asked me if we were studying the holocaust in my class. I said yes and she said she had given a quiz and on one question it asked about "Natural Selection." Well we had just got done talking about the selection process in the holocaust and one student put the "holocaust" as an example of natural selection and defined it as when the Jews get killed. You can imagine the confusion the science teacher had as they had never talked about killing people. We both agreed at least he's learning something in his classes, and no, he was not docked points on that question :)
